The Rent a Peasant adult costumes illustrated throughout the website are available for hire. Outer garments are generally made of woollen cloth, undergarments of linen. There are several male and female outfits for each era, particularly for the Medieval, Tudor and English Civil War periods. These are all practical outfits, suitable for outdoor wear in the British weather. They are neither period high status clothing nor modern fancy dress in washable synthetic fabrics. In keeping with the status of Rent a Peasant, there is evidence of wear and tear on the most frequently worn clothes.

In addition there are some garments in children’s sizes. Several of these were made for a medieval pageant, so look right for the period. However, they are not made of woollen or linen cloth, so are not suitable for events requiring high levels of accuracy to detail.

Medieval hoods, cloaks and over-leggings for men can produce a medieval ambience for Fayres and Markets with no need to dispense with modern clothing underneath.

A deposit is payable when the costumes are collected, which is refunded in full on return of the costumes in good condition.

Rent a Peasant does not make costumes for sale as the garments are all hand, not machine, sewn. However, the range of garments is being continually expanded and it may be possible to create a bespoke garment for a specific event, if it is likely to have further use.

The costumes also form the basis of a popular “Costumes Through Time” presentation, modelling the garments with assistance from the audience. This can be either female only garments for W.I. type organisations or both male and female outfits for a mixed audience.
